Water Softener Systems

Countries that have well-established water works and plumbing systems need to ensure that water quality meets certain standards and that the water is potable (drinkable). Scale forming minerals found in water, such as calcium and magnesium, can build up in boilers, heat exchange units, piping, water heaters and other steam related equipment. Industrial water softening systems are designed to reduce water ‘hardness’, curbing mineral build-up and preventing many hard water problems.

In addition, hard water minerals negatively affect the durability of appliances, clothing, linens and fixtures. The use of water softeners greatly reduces the amount of detergents needed for washing dishes and laundry, thereby reducing operating expenses.

Benefits of industrial water softeners include reduced chemical consumption and associated costs, reduced energy usage, extended equipment / appliance lifetime, lower repair and maintenance costs and more consistent water quality.

Components for water management systems and components can benefit from the properties AKROTEK® PK (polyketone) provides. Polyketone’s advantage over other polymer choices such as PPO, is that it is more resilient and less prone to stress cracking under high water pressures. Polyketone is also extremely dimensionally stable. It does not react to water by absorbing, swelling or expanding – unlike other polymers such as polyamide. Compared to PA6 and PA66, polyketone offers higher mechanical properties against high water pressure.

Spotlight on AKROTEK® PK:

  • High tensile strength
  • Reduced water absorption
  • Ability to deform elastically & thus reversible, results in an extremely low creep tendency in combination with glass fibres
  • Low permeability
  • Short cycle times
  • Good resilience
  • Extremely high chemical resistance
  • Easily coloured
  • High barrier effect
  • Construction material for structural components
