Distrupol is proudly celebrating its 60th year in business!

It’s been quite a journey, and alongside acquisitions, expansions, and rebrands, the core values of Distrupol have always been the same. That’s why we’re still here today.

Distrupol History

We started out as Ronmar Plastics Ltd in 1963, which was founded by Ron and Margaret Beere. Ronmar was later acquired by KD Thermoplastics in 1994, and became part of the larger Ellis & Everard group, which went on to become what is known today as Univar Solutions. KD Thermoplastics expanded into the Nordic and Benelux regions in 1997, and was rebranded as Distrupol. In 2001, we expanded into Ireland, and have continued to grow and expand in all regions ever since. Today, as a part of the GPD Companies Inc. group, we’re an industry leader with some incredibly exciting developments and growth plans in the pipeline in the near future.

Distrupol is so proud to have made it to its 60th anniversary in business. We proudly look back at the heritage businesses that form Distrupol today, starting on March 22, 1963, with the formation of Ronmar Plastics in Wolverhampton. Over 60 years, many supplier and customer partnerships have developed to support us to the industry-leading Distrupol that we are today, we would like to thank all of these partners for their support!” Richard Orme, Managing Director.

… The Distrupol Family

Distrupol has been so much more than a workplace for many of our people. It’s a place where lifelong friendships have been made, where families have started, where loved ones have been lost, and where people have truly grown and flourished.

Our people are our main asset – they are the reason why we have been successful for 60 years and why our customers and suppliers are proud to work with us.

Here are a few words from the people behind the Distrupol brand...

What’s been your funniest memory of Distrupol?

"Christmas Parties – especially one where someone fell into the speakers on the dance floor whilst strutting their stuff, and getting people up dancing to Kung Foo Fighting – especially Chi!" Janine Davis, Credit Control Manager, joined the business in 1997

"So many over 20 years! And a lot that I dare not share in writing!" Jamie King, UKI Sales Director, joined in the business in 2002

"Working as Richard Orme’s CSR! Very different from working other KAMs. Loved every minute of it." Sara Catford, CSR, joined the business in 1999

"There have been so many as we have had a variety of characters over the years. Most favourite was the Sue-isms…bless her!" Sarah Bailey, CSR, first joined the business in 2001

"Interviewing a potential candidate and him bringing along an imaginary friend (that he had pulled up a chair for) who he thought would also be good for the role!" Julie White, Senior Logistics Coordinator, joined the business in 1985

What’s your favourite thing about working at Distrupol?

"The people." Janine Davis, Credit Control Manager, joined the business in 1997

"The people and the banter." Manuel Aira, Purchasing Coordinator, joined the business in 1986

"Distrupol is like a family – nice, small team and good vibes in the office." Sara Catford, CSR, joined the business in 1999

What do you think has been a fundamental part of Distrupol's success for 60 years?

"Again, the people that have put time and effort into the business.  So many of our customers mention our service, support and that they like dealing with us." Sarah Bailey, CSR, first joined the business in 2001

"Our culture. We have a strong identity, confidence and passion to deliver for ourselves, our customers and our suppliers, and at the same time we allow ourselves to have fun AND we take care of each other knowing that our health/personal lives/families are more important than anything." Jamie King, UKI Sales Director, joined in the business in 2002

"Great management and staff appreciation. We work hard and play hard, and Distrupol has become known for that." Sara Catford, CSR, joined the business in 1999

And some final comments...

"I’ve grown up at Distrupol. When I joined I was 24 years old and lived with my Mom. I bought a house, got married, became a father, got divorced, became a father again, and we have loved and lost colleagues along the way. Distrupol is part of me, and hopefully I am part of Distrupol too." Jamie King, UKI Sales Director, joined in the business in 2002

"I have been fortunate to work with good people, some unfortunately are not with us anymore, but the majority were good people who care/cared about the company and I feel this has always been a strength for the business. The Managers and Directors of the company have always been approachable and inclusive no matter what area of the business you work in." Julie White, Senior Logistics Coordinator, joined the business in 1985

"Distrupol has had a major part in shaping my life and who I am today. Being part of such an incredible business with a team of fantastic people makes working life something I truly enjoy and cherish. I hope to be part of the Distrupol family for many more years to come." James Stanton, Commercial & Operations Director, joined the business in 2007

Thank you to all of our colleagues, customers and suppliers - old and new - who have made Distrupol who we are today. Here's to the next 60 years!
