Patch Pump Components

Patch pumps are a recent innovation which enable medicine to be automatically administered to a patient. The product consists of an electronically driven pump which is controlled by a handheld unit or third-party device (e.g. a mobile phone). Taking the patients into consideration, designers are challenged to create a compact and discrete product containing all the sophisticated engineering requirements. Mouldings need to be compact and precise, with the mechanism relying on very small motors and gears to transport the drug through the compacted patch pump. Delrin® SC is highly compatible for this application.

Delrin® SC is a medically approved portfolio of homopolymer acetal. Compared to acetal copolymer, Delrin® acetal homopolymer offers higher tensile strength, stiffness, creep and fatigue resistance, and significantly higher impact resistance. The extra mechanical properties of Delrin® allow for parts to be made thinner and smaller, whilst delivering the same performance of a thicker, less compact copolymer acetal moulding.

Spotlight on Delrin® SC:

  • High rigidity / modulus - providing rigidity in smaller wall sections
  • Low wear and friction
  • Medically approved
  • Miniaturisation potential
  • High flow acetal medical grades

Invented by DuPont™, delivered by Distrupol.
