Engine Fuel Pumps

Hybrid and standard combustion engines require fuel to be pumped from the tank to the engine. Fuel pumps are mounted on the fuel tank themselves and often employ the outstanding properties of Delrin® homopolymer acetal. Properties suitable for this application include mechanical strength, barrier properties to fuel vapours and dimensional stability when submersed in the fuel.

Compared to acetal copolymer, Delrin® acetal homopolymer offers higher tensile strength, stiffness, creep and fatigue resistance, and significantly higher impact resistance. The extra mechanical properties of Delrin® allow for parts to be made thinner and smaller, whilst delivering the same performance of a thicker, less compact copolymer acetal moulding.

Spotlight on Delrin®:

  • High mechanical strength and ductility
  • Light weight vs metal
  • Automotive approvals
  • Good chemical resistance against automotive fluids
  • Good barrier properties against fuel vapours
