Intumescent Flame Retardant TPU

Flame retardancy is unsurprisingly a desired feature of wire and cable materials across a wide variety of sectors, including automotive (plus EV), industrial, consumer and electronics.

BASF continues to present the newest and most advanced technology in flame retardant, halogen-free and abrasion resistant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) for wire and cable applications.

Introducing flame retardant Elastollan® using intumescent technology.

What does intumescent mean? ‘Intumescent’ describes something which swells as a result of heat exposure. Elastollan® intumescent grades form a very efficient insulating char layer when exposed to heat and flame, thus protecting the components within or potentially sealing a gap in the event of a fire.

The value of Elastollan® is its design flexibility with a range of flame retardant performance levels.
