EV Power Trains

With the emerging trend of electric vehicles, materials are needed to fit a new set of automotive requirements that are completely different from petrol or diesel internal combustion engines. Internal combustion engines run at very high temperatures and the main challenges of any polymer based components would be to be able to resist such high temperatures and also ensure the materials resistant heat ageing challenges. In addition, combustion engines involve hydrocarbon based chemicals, so the materials had to resist chemical attack. Now, the working environment of electrical vehicles has completely changed with much reduced temperature needs and reduced chemical resistance requirements.

However, we are now faced with new challenges, with the following examples:

  • Good electrical insulation properties
  • Colourability for industrial EV coding
  • Electrical insulation at elevated temperatures
  • Non-halogenated flame retardancy
  • High CTI ratings up to 600v
  • Hydrolysis resistance
  • Lightweighting for vehicle efficiency
  • FR combined with ease of processing
  • EMC Shielding options

Crastin® PBT provides options to all the above requirements and more.

Crastin® PBT can be associated with electrical safety in EV systems and chosen for many moulded components in the entire electrical system:

  • Inverter Housings
  • Power Electronic Casings
  • High Voltage Connectors
  • Busbars
