Distrupol wins Plastics Industry Awards 2015

Distrupol Recognised for Innovation and Partnership at 2015 Plastics Industry Awards

LONDON –  NOVEMBER 25, 2015 – Distrupol, a leading European distributor of engineering and commodity thermoplastics to the polymer processing industry, was recently recognized for driving innovation with a customer application as a recipient of the 2015 Plastics Industry Award for Supplier Partnership.

The annual Plastics Industry Awards highlight and recognise the best that the innovative UK plastics industry has to offer with awards given in 15 categories covering materials usage, product design, training, and environmental performance. This year’s black tie event was held on October 9 and was attended by over 700 industry professionals annually. Distrupol, a subsidiary of Univar, a global chemical distributor and provider of value-added services, was recognised for its exceptional partnership with its customers, BM Polyco and Interplex, on an elastomer for use in designing an innovative glove application. This is the seventh time that Distrupol has received a Plastics Industry Award.

“With tough competition, winning felt extra special this year,” said Distrupol Development Engineer, Simon Clegg, who worked together with BM Polyco and Interplex on the application. “True engineering prevailed and the team effort, together with our suppliers, helped us to stand out to the judges at the 2015 Plastics Industry Awards.”

The innovative glove developed with the help of Distrupol is used for work activities and situations where liquids and moisture are a potentially dangerous factor. The elastomers used in the glove include hydrophobic additives, which enable water that the glove comes in contact with to simply run off the surface. The glove has an excellent grip and more importantly, an impressive wet grip, helping people to conduct work more efficiently and safely in wet conditions.

“We have worked with Distrupol for longer than I can remember,” said Simon Colings, Director at Interplex. “What we are looking for is for a partner who is willing to make informed, technical decisions that actually add value to the project. Having experience with many polymer suppliers, Distrupol stands out as being one of the best partners who tick this box, and have the right experience to call upon.”

“Distrupol, and Simon in particular, have been very helpful and supportive in working with us firstly in the development of the TPE material as we wanted to have the material with the highest level of grip yet that would work in the injection moulding machines,” said Bernard Garvey, Technology Director at Polyco. “This involved the production of plaques of different material formulations, which we then tested in our labs until we had the best performing material.  Secondly, we were given great support in the production of trial size batches to be used on the injection moulding machine.”
